Our Story: A Recipe for Sustainability

My name is John Baccuzzi Jr., and I'm one of the owners of BD Provisions. We founded BD Provisions in 2018, inspired by a visit my wife and I made to a bulk food store while on vacation. We realized that if we could combine the bulk food concept with sustainability, it would be something special. Our friends, Tony and Tara Depipa, thought it was a great idea too. That's how the name BD Provisions came to be—'B' for Baccuzzi and 'D' for Depipa.

From One Store to a Full Spread

Our first store opened in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2018. Since then, we've grown and now have three locations: our flagship store in Newtown, another in New Milford, Connecticut, and our newest store in Severna Park, Maryland. Our concept is all about offering a friendly approach to sustainability.

Shop Smart, Shop Sustainably

At BD Provisions, customers can use paper bags or Mason jars when shopping. We even clean and refill the jars once they're done with the product. This allows people to buy as much or as little as they need—perfect for everyone, from seniors looking for smaller portions to families needing larger quantities. Customers can easily write down the bin number, scoop out what they want, and weigh it at the end.

Brewing Freshness: Our In-House Coffee Roastery

One of the things we're particularly proud of is that we roast all our coffee in-store. For example, our Midnight Joe coffee, a blend of Brazilian, Colombian, and Indian monsoon beans, is a bestseller. It's named after my Uncle Joe, who was a coffee enthusiast. We also offer other unique coffees, like our Guatemalan dark roast and our Peruvian beans, sourced from women-owned farms and are organic, rainforest-friendly, and Fair Trade certified.

Sweet Local Flavors: Honey and Maple Syrup

Our stores also feature local honey and maple syrup. The honey comes from local beekeepers near each of our stores, and we've partnered with Maplecraft in Newtown, Connecticut, to create our own cardamom maple syrup—something we're very proud of.

Nutty Delights: Create Your Own Butters

Customers can also make their own nut butters in-store with our nut butter machines, making it a truly personalized experience.

Your Go-To Gourmet General Store

We think of BD Provisions as a modern-day general store, where people love to shop for unique, high-quality products. It's become a bit of a tourist attraction, especially during the holidays when people bring their out-of-town relatives to visit. Many of those visitors end up ordering from us later, so we ship products all over the United States.

If you're visiting us and need to pick up a few things, I'd recommend our 19th Hole snack mix, Midnight Joe coffee, a nut butter of your choice, and our dark chocolate Buckeyes. If I could add a fifth item, it would be our basil or garlic olive oil, which is freshly pressed with the herbs and is absolutely amazing.
